    The Brandy Station Foundation offers the following tours:
    Brandy Station Battlefield
    The Battle of Brandy Station was the largest cavalry engagement of the Civil War. Although the Union advance was repelled, the overwhelming dominance of the Confederate cavalry was broken.

    Cost: $30 / per hour per group

    Historic Graffiti House
    The Graffiti House is believed to include the most extensive collection on Civil War era graffiti.

    The Battle of Brandy Station on June 9, 1863 was the largest cavalry battle of the American Civil War and was the opening battle of the Gettysburg campaign.

  • Cedar Mountain Battlefield Tour

    Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation: Cedar Mountain Battlefield

    The Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation offers the following tours:
    Cedar Mountain Battlefield
    Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson led his troops into battle on August 9, 1862, against Nathaniel Banks’ corps of John Pope’s new Army of Virginia. Over 3,000 men were killed or wounded in the shadow of Cedar Mountain during the deadliest day in Culpeper’s history. 

    Private Tours
    Guides provide an overview of the battle or respond to your particular interests.

    Public tours
    Historians offer monthly free guided walking tours of the battlefield.
    Times: 2nd Saturday each month | 10:00am

  • Fredericksburg Tours: Brandy Station | Cedar Mountain | Rappahannock Station &   Kelly’s Ford

    Fredericksburg Tours offers the following tours in the Culpeper region:
    Brandy Station Battlefield (3-4 hours)
    June 9, 1863. The first fight of the Gettysburg Campaign was also the largest cavalry fight during the war. This tour will follow Buford’s fight from Beverly Ford to the St. James Plain, and his attempts to flank J.E.B. Stuart’s blocking forces. The fighting on Fleetwood Hill will be explored as well as Yew Ridge and Stevensburg.

    Cedar Mountain Battlefield (Campaign Tour) (3-4 hours)
    August 2-9, 1862. We will follow Jackson’s advance from the Orange Court House to Cedar Mountain, detailing key sites of fighting and incidents on a tour of both preserved and private ground. The battlefield tour will walk nearly all the ground where fighting took place and will identify locations of the late evening fight.

    Cedar Mountain Battlefield (Battle Tour) (2 hours)
    August 9, 1862. Using accounts of those who participated in the battle, we’ll trace the Confederate positions, then follow and discuss the attacks by Banks’ brigades across the undulating ground. Finally, we will march with the counterattacking forces of A. P. Hill as he cleared the battlefield.

    Rappahannock Station &   Kelly’s Ford Battlefield (3-4 hours)
    November 1863. Gen. Meade divided the Union army and struck simultaneously at Kelly’s Ford and Rappahannock Station. At both locations, the Army of Northern Virginia was thrown back. We will tour both battlefields, walking along the Federal advance and Confederate defensive positions.

    Museum of Culpeper History

    The museum collects, preserves, interprets, and promotes the history of Culpeper from the Triassic Period to present-day Culpeper, by engaging diverse audiences and educating visitors. It incorporates a vast collection of objects and photographs in exhibits and programs to create an increased understanding of the significant historical events that occurred locally. Be sure to visit the events listing at their website as they offer walking tours, lectures and other special events throughout the year.
