2020 Cedar Mountain Living History Event

On August 8 and 9, 2020, the Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield (FCMB) will hold a free living history event to commemorate the 158th anniversary of Culpeper’s Battle of Cedar Mountain.

 Saturday, August 8, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Living historians representing Federal and Confederate regiments that fought at Cedar Mountain will recreate Civil War encampments on the battlefield. Experiences will include a combined arms demonstration of infantry and artillery, basic drill and instruction, and camp activities.

Visitors may also interact with Todd Harrington of Winchester, a photographic artist using the wet plate process that was in use in the 1860s. Mr. Harrington will demonstrate the process involved in taking a photograph during the Civil War, allowing comparison to the technology used today.

 Sunday, August 9, 9:00 a.m.

FCMB will host an Ancestors Ceremony honoring the fallen at Cedar Mountain. Those being honored have been identified by their descendants to FCMB prior to the ceremony and represent Confederate and Federal soldiers. A Color Guard will be present.

Directions & Parking: For GPS directions, 9465 General Winder Road, Rapidan, VA 22733 can be used. For parking, attendees are asked to turn onto General Winder Road from Route 15 and look for parking attendants in the field on the right.

Health & Safety Precautions: In keeping with CDC physical distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, FCMB requests that all visitors remain at least 6 feet away from others not in their group. A face mask may be advisable.
